It might sound a bit strange, but I feel like autos have a spirit all of their own. I feel these autos would much rather be resting here in the open rather than have met the fate of the crusher and recycling. What a shame it is to see any of our autos crushed and smashed. These yards of old cars have a beauty all of their own.
ONE OF THE WORLDS'S MOST BEAUTIFUL AUTOMOBILES, THE FRAZER. Designed by Henry J. Kaiser, aluminuium magnate and mogul who built the Liberty ships during WWII. The Kaiser, a smilar auto but without the sandwich top, was the top-of-the-line auto built by Kaiser. It was laden with chrome and all sorts of extra-frills. Finally, Henry built a cute little number he named after himself, the Henry J. Back in the 50s, when the Frazers were on the roads, there was always five minutes of awe each time a Frazer passed by. It was monumental in its beauty, its sleek lines and colors, many like the one above. Oh, those days of Henry J.

A BUNGALOW FOR ONLY TEN GRAND--BUT THAT WAS IN 1961
You are right, expensive. My first visit to Venice Beach, California was in the summer of 1959. Only 17, I thought it was a paradise. The blue Pacific was the perfect mural, a paradise come-to-life. Bikinis and beautiful women, men with tanned muscles--it was the place for beautiful people.
I watched the parade of California gals and guys and hoped I might get invited to a beach blanket bingo party. Pacific Ocean Park was open and one could hear the cries of joy as the roller coaster riders went up one wooden hill and down another; it was fun, a summer of fun.
I liked Venice so well, I left my midwestern home and headed west. There wasn't a day when I wasn't goofing off along the Promenade--until I finally decided to join the Navy. I joined the service in 1960 and was stationed in San Diego. Venice Beach was often a weekend destination.
I had met some friends and was having a great time. Two old gentlemen whom I had befriended told me they wanted to sell their home, a beachfront bungalow. They said they had enjoyed it for years but were too old to continue living there.
"We have had our parties here for years, years--but we are just too old to stay. We want to slow it down, get fed on time and enjoy our golden years," the older of the two said. "So, if you want it for around ten grand, it's yours."
If I had not been scheduled to go overseas, I would have purchased the real estate, but that is the world of "if."

18 two-axle Leylands - #23 to #40 - arrived in Perth to help with the overloaded wartime public transport system, taking the trolley bus fleet total to 40. These additions, with bodies built at the WAGR workshops, were part of an order originally intended for Canton, but diverted due to war conditions.

IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE OLD ROTARY DIAL TELEPHONEPHONE By Robert L. Huffstutter.
The early 50s and 60s were the best times in America. This is, of course, just one man's opinion.
Why was it a great time today's generation might ask.
In order for today's generation to understand, they would have to turn in their cell phones for a black bakelight rotary dial phone with a standard ring. No fancy custom ringtones, no none at all, just the old and loud standard ring that would make grandma call out, "Bobby, get that phone, I just can't get there in time."
The phone would always be in the same location, not under a pillow or in a coat pocket. The spot where the phone was stationed was permanent. The cord was not usually more than three feet long, so no walking around while talking.
One would either stand or sit and chat.
Remind me if I am mistaken, but it seems that the tone of the callers'voice was much more clear than the voices coming through on cell phones today.
The voices were louder too. What a pleasure it was to talk to a favorite girlfriend back then--or a favorite uncle. One other thing about the old phone was that while dialing, one could contemplate the subjects to chat about.
Oh, sure, there were times when we might have wanted the dial to increase speed, but once the number was connected, we could hear the phone ringing in the home of the person we were calling. We could almost hear their footsteps as they hurried to pick up the phone and say "Hello."

OLD MEN IN HOTEL LOBBIES

When the times got bad
I headed out of town
on Greyhound to some faraway
place on either coast, somewhere
near the sea, a beachtown
where there were small bars,
liquor stores, a main street
with side streets where old hotels
had vacancy signs blinking, hotels
where old divans and easy chairs were
occupied by veterans from three wars,
The Great War, World War Two and
the Korean War.
Those old vets
always had kind words and shook hands
when someone new walked in
to inquire about the rooms.
They looked up
leaving the headlines for a moment
to size up the new stranger in town. They would save their questions
until the guest checked in. How many suitcases
the stranger had made a difference in their
mental state and future questions.
New people in town
were news enough for these men who
had seen action on foreign battlegrounds.
