On March 24, 1958, Elvis Presley was inducted into the U.S. Army at the Memphis Draft Board. He was assigned serial number 53310761.

He was not a hero, but when called, he went and served with honor. Elvis will always be my rock and roll hero--he has given me hours of personal listening pleasure and many of my greatest memories have his music in the background.
