OLD NAVAL HOSPITAL (BALBOA) AERIEL SHOT FROM 1950S, SAN DIEGO, NOT MY PHOTO

ANOTHER GOLDEN MEMORY OF USNTC BOOT CAMP By R.L.Huffstutter

When I was in Navy boot camp in the spring of 1960, our company was one of many selected to doate blood. It was a fun outing as they bussed us over to Balboa Naval Hospital. We had heard rumors that once we had given blood, they would give us a shot of Jack Daniels to restore our blood count. NOT-----we got a glass of orange juice and a glance at a lot of lovely nurses in the hospital and along the journey. We were told NOT to whistle or make any noises upon viewing these lovelies. We obeyed, but there were whispers like......................................... ............................................. ............................................. .

It was a fun outing and we were excused from drilling duties for the rest of the day, given time to wash, write letters home, play cards, or simply shoot the breeze. The breezes from the Pacific that were always drifting into the USNTC were invigorating and another reason we were glad we had joined the Navy. We loved the fresh and salty Pacific breezes. By R.L.
