Georges Seurat - Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte 1884-85

One of my all-time favorites, a real upbeat image. I can almost imagine being there at times. What a serene era, just prior to the World War and after the French Revolution, a period of true Bohemia. How cool it would have been to have had a garret in one of the big roofs of Monmartre and talked with the various artists at a variety of bistros in the evenings, sipping espresso and/or absinthe.

Of course the image we see here is the one of proper society and social affluence, but it took both sides of the spectrum to create the kind of art these men and women of that era created.

Great choice, Teresa, I do enjoy your exhibition, always open, always easy to reference. Robert
